ACCORD COOPERATION TO OSHA, CHIEF GOVT SPOKESPERSON
CHIEF Government Spokesperson Gerson Msigwa has appealed to employers and employees to accord cooperation to the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) so that they benefit from consultancy and professional guidelines offered by the authority to improve workplaces environment.
Mr Msigwa, who doubles as director of Tanzania Information Services, made a plea on weekend after visiting OSHA Pavilion at the 46th Dar es salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), popularly known as a ’Sabasaba’
“Let me Congratulate the authority for the good job of ensuring that workplaces are safe. Therefore, I urge employers and employees to accord full cooperation to the authority and see it as good partner in efforts to improve safety in workplaces because apart from doing inspections it also offers advices so that safety is maintained” – Mr Msigwa stressed.
He said the authority and its roles are well known now days.
“I ask Tanzanians to accord OSHA full cooperation so that it effectively performs its roles of reducing risks at workplaces” he appealed.
The Chief Government Spokesperson also argued employers to work hand in hand with OSHA in building strong safety system at workplaces for sustainable high productivity.
“Sometimes we are very much concerned about the fees charged by the authority in safety and health issues but we forget to consider the value of the work performed by the OSHA at our workplaces. We must understand that heath workers are more productive and reduce cost of treating them” he said.
Some employers who visited OSHA’s booth at the DITF also praised service offered by the authority.
“Through the trade fair, the OSHA has educated us about its roles and offered services including registering workplaces as well as issuing compliance licenses” Said Mr Bright Dickson Fue, an employer.
