GOVT WANTS EMPLOYERS REGISTER WORKPLACES WITH OSHA

THE government wants all employers to ensure that they register their workplaces with the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) for them to benefit from services offered by the authority. The Deputy Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth, Employment & Persons with Disability), Patrobas Katambi said that registering their workplaces would make their places safe for workers. 

“The important thing that I emphasize on is for owners of workplaces or employers to continue registering with the OSHA so that they could be offered services such as inspection on workplaces to improve safety,” he stated at the 46th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) that ended on 13thWednesday of July 2022,

He argued that the inspection contributes to improving safety at workplaces, as result boosting productivity. “I am glad that OSHA has been implementing this role effectively, it has been visiting workplaces and identifying safety risks upon which it issues guidance to address the in order to protect workers,” he said. 

On her part, Chief Executive Officer of the OSHA, Ms Hadija Mwenda, said the main objective of the authority is to facilitate business and investment in the country. “OSHA is an enabling institution in supporting the government in ensuring that businesses and investments flourish,” she stated. “With this in mind, the authority scrapped a total of 13 levies, worth 35bn/-, that the government had endorsed in a bid to create conducive environment for doing business and investment,” she said.
