NDALICHAKO WANTS WORKPLACE OWNERS TO ENFORCE LABOUR LAWS
Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office (Labour, Youth, Employment & Persons with Disability) Prof. Joyce Ndalichako has appealed to workplace owners to enforce respectively different labor laws including the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 2003 so as to enhance productivity and avoid conflicts
Minister Ndalichako, made a plea when she visited three industries in Dar es Salaam which manufactures paints and pipes accompanied by heads of institutions under the Prime Minister’s Office, to oversee the implementation of different legal requirements at workplaces.
“We have identified high noise level in some industries we visited which it may effect workers when there will be no efficiency measures taken also some workers they do not wear protective gears when they working, therefore, I want all employers to make sure their workers wears protective equipment at workplaces.” Said Prof. Ndalichako
“I ask OSHA to come at these industries to conduct inspection and also to advise on how you can improve an occupational safety and health system so as to protect workers against all kind of risks”.
On the side of the National Social Funds, Prof. Ndalichako explained that her office receives a lot of complains from the retired whose challenges is from their former employers who didn’t fulfil their responsibilities of contributing in the respective funds
“As the government we are making a good follow up on the worker’s contributions because we need all the retired to get their pension on time and without any inconveniences, in some industries I have uncover there is no balance between the actual number of workers and the number of contributions paid.” Said Minister Ndalichako.
Furthermore, she assured workplace owners that the government will proceed to improve investment and business environment and she appealed to employers who employs workers through agency to make sure their agent provides services according to the law and regulations of their license which includes only to employ but not to supervise and pay salaries to workers on behalf of their employers.
