PUBLIC SECTORS HAS APPEALED TO JOIN FORCES IN IMPROVING OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH.

Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office (Labour, Youth, Employment & Persons with Disability) Prof. Joyce Ndalichako has appealed to public sectors to perfectly collaborates with occupational safety and health authority (OSHA) in improving health and safety system in their offices as well as government projects.

Minister Ndalichako, made a plea when she was opening occupational health and safety trainings prepared by OSHA and provided to officials from Ministries, public organizations, departments, and other government institutions.

Invited participants of phase one training included human resources and management officers, procurement and supply officers, law officers, internal auditors and planning officers which in one way or another they are directly involving in managing public offices, different managing systems and workers prosperity.

On her speech, Minister Ndalichako has congratulated OSHA for implementing her  instructions as she asked them on April to conducting inspections to all government offices as well as to provide trainings and technical advice on how to improve occupational environment in offices and in ongoing construction projects.

“I expect after these two days training you will all have a good understanding on the Occupational Health and Safety Act No.5  of 2003 and your will be able to enforce it as well,  I beg you all to be  our good ambassadors and to tell other workers to work with precautions and use properly the respective gears provided to them.” Said Minister, Ndalichako

“Furthermore, I congratulate OSHA for implementing what I instructed them on April but I would like to see you are reaching more stakeholders and you can also plan to conduct trainings to permanent secretaries so as to facilitate the enforcement of occupational safety and health issues.” Added Minister, Ndalichako.

On the side of the Chief Executive Officer, Khadija Mwenda said these training is a part of the feedback of OSHA campaign of inspecting public offices well as occupational diseases screening to workers held on April that uncovered many challenges which included minimal awareness of occupational safety and health issues to stakeholders.
