Over 450 small-scale entrepreneurs benefit from OHS Training

Over 450 small-scale entrepreneurs benefited from Safety and Health awareness training provided to them by the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) in Southern Zone regions recently.

The training was aimed at building capacity among beneficiaries to identify and control various hazards originating from their daily activities in order to avoid occupational accidents and diseases that might be caused by the given hazards.

The statistics were released by Sam Sichone who is OSHA’s Senior OSH Inspector during media interview shortly after concluding his presentation in one of the classes of small-scale entrepreneurs conducted in Lindi Region.

The programme is coordinated by the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disability) which are conducted as part of the activities for the Youth Week celebrations held at national level in Lindi Region.

Mr. Sichone said the training beneficiaries are engaged in various economic activities including farming, food processing, artisanship, tailoring and other activities in Ruvuma, Mtwara and Lindi regions.

“The training are very much important especially among the mentioned groups since most of them have been performing hazardous activities without taking any preventive measures and therefore risking their health against occupational accidents and diseases,” stated OSHA’s Inspector. 

Miss Asha Hamis, a training participant, said: “We have learnt so many issues concerning safety and health at work under this programme, we therefore.
